How to Cook Swedish Sausage
Swedish potato sausages combine beef, pork, potatoes and spices for a hearty dish. The sausages go well with mustard, or can be eaten alone. Part of the traditional Swedish "smorgasbord," potato sausages are also a Christmas staple. While these sausages can be fried, boiled or oven-baked, the initial prep work remains the same. Choose your favorite cooking method, or try them all.
Things You'll Need
- Skillet
- Toothpick or sharp knife
Instructions
-
Place a skillet on your stove.
-
Prick your sausages with a toothpick or sharp knife, making one prick every few inches, on all sides of the sausages. If you forget this, your potato sausages will burst while cooking.
-
Place the pricked sausages in your skillet. Turn the heat to medium and fry the sausages in the pan until they're golden.
-
Bake the sausages in a lidded skillet for half an hour at 300 degrees Fahrenheit, removing the lid halfway through so the meat can brown.
-
Simmer Swedish sausage in a pot of chicken stock for 45 minutes to one hour, until soft and cooked through.
