The Chocolate Biscuit

• The Chocolate Biscuit is the eastern Birmingham area of Trussville and is open for lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. When you enter, you are greeted by a welcoming hostess as well as beautiful mosaic teapot fountains on the wall. Hot teas include Apple Cinnamon, Blackberry, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, English Tea Time, Green Tea, Lemon Lift, Orange, Raspberry and Vanilla Chai. Daily soup and casserole specials join sandwich plates, salads and the not-to-be-missed chicken salad plate, croissant or wrap on the full lunch menu. Desserts include roulage, chocolate cobbler and the signature chocolate biscuit, a homemade buttered biscuit with chocolate syrup on top. A children’s menu is available.

  Be sure to take home a tub of chicken, pimento, broccoli or mandarin orange salad or order a casserole or cake to share with your family or enjoy yourself. Specialty items available include cheeseball, dessert and drink mixes, chocolate sauce and homemade poppyseed dressing.

  A separate room with seating for up to 25 is available for showers, luncheons or other special events. The room is available from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. by reservation. A choice of special menu items is available.

The Spiced Pear Tea Room

• The Spiced Pear Tea Room is centrally located in the quaint neighborhood of Homewood. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday, evenings and Saturday by reservation. More than 100 loose teas, scones with lemon curd and clotted cream, Mediterranean salad, savory soups and quiches are just a few of the menu offerings. High tea is available by reservation only from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

  For a truly feminine event, choose The Spiced Pear for showers, luncheons, “Red Hat” meetings, family celebrations or princess birthday parties. Children’s parties have a ten-guest minimum and invitations are provided. Parties are held between 3:00 and 6:00 pm and on Saturdays. Catering is also available at your location complete with scrumptious hors d’oeuvres and specialty cakes. Ongoing events include a Friday night dinner club and a Saturday night murder mystery party.

  Located in a charming cottage complete with pink shutters, The Spiced Pear is designed to appeal to a feminine aesthetic, inside and out. Four dining rooms, each decorated in a different pastel color scheme, can accommodate up to 50 guests. From the white picket fence out front to the fresh flowers on your table, you’ll delight in this sensory treat.

Miss Rosemarie’s Special Teas

• Miss Rosemarie’s Special Teas Salon & Shoppe combines European elegance with Southern charm. Located just south of Birmingham in north Shelby County, lunch hours are Monday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday breakfast and brunch are served from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with no reservation required. Menu selections include specials such as sweet potato raviolis, crab cakes, shrimp and grits, basil, tomato and gorgonzola quiche and chicken crepes. Tea fare includes scones, soup, tea sandwiches, tartlets and signature teas. Sunday breakfast offers eggs Benedict, French toast and omelets.

  Special events during normal business hours and after hours or Sunday can be arranged. Special menus are available for rehearsal dinners, showers and luncheons. Miss Rosemarie’s can accommodate groups of up to 26. Antique tables, Old World chandeliers and lace tablecloths will make your event special.

  With more than 60 custom loose teas to choose from you’re sure to find a favorite. Create your own private label brand and name it after a loved one. Other merchandise includes books and magazines, infusers, children’s tea sets, sample kits, teapots and cups and saucers.
