How to Store Brewed Tea

According to legend, China’s second emperor discovered tea nearly 6,000 years ago. Even if this legend is untrue, tea’s documented history stretches back to the fourth century A.D. Today, hundreds of types of tea are widely available. These range from pure teas to tea that comes pre-blended with other ingredients, such as herbs or dried fruits. You can brew tea and serve it immediately (with or without milk and sugar) or cool it to serve as iced tea.

Things You'll Need

  • Airtight glass containers

Instructions

  1. Wash the glass containers and their lids thoroughly, then rinse off any soap. Fill the containers with boiling water to sterilize them, then pour out the water. Pour more boiling water over the lids.

  2. Pour your tea into the glass containers, then put on the lids and ensure an airtight seal. Any air that comes into contact with the tea will cause it to go bad more quickly.

  3. Keep the tea in the refrigerator if you will not drink it within about eight hours. You may store tea in the refrigerator for up to two days. You can then either drink the tea cold, pour it over ice to make it even colder, or reheat it on the stove or in the microwave for a hot cup.
