What drinks will Mentos react in?

Diet sodas

Diet sodas, such as Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi, contain artificial sweeteners like aspartame or saccharin. These sweeteners are indigestible by the body and can cause gas and bloating. When Mentos are added to diet soda, the gelatin in the candy forms bubbles around the gas bubbles that are produced by the aspartame or saccharin. This causes the bubbles to grow larger and more numerous, resulting in a fizzing reaction.

Regular sodas

Regular sodas, such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi, contain sugar instead of artificial sweeteners. Sugar is digestible by the body and does not cause gas or bloating. However, when Mentos are added to regular soda, the gelatin in the candy can still form bubbles around the gas bubbles that are produced by the carbon dioxide in the soda. This can cause the soda to foam up and overflow.

Other carbonated drinks

Mentos can also react with other carbonated drinks, such as seltzer, sparkling water, and beer. The reaction is the same as with diet soda and regular soda: the gelatin in the candy forms bubbles around the gas bubbles in the drink, causing it to fizz.

Non-carbonated drinks

Mentos will not react with non-carbonated drinks, such as juice, milk, or water. This is because there are no gas bubbles in non-carbonated drinks for the gelatin in the Mentos to form bubbles around.
