Why is Carbohydrase used in sports drinks?
Carbohydrases are not typically used in sports drinks. Some sports drinks include carbohydrates in the form of simple sugars to rapidly replace the glycogen used during exercise, but carbohydrases themselves are not added. Enzymes like carbohydrases, that break down carbohydrates into simpler sugars, are instead present naturally in your saliva and small intestine to aid in food digestion. Adding carbohydrases specifically to sports drinks is generally unnecessary.
