How to Make Shamrock Shakes (5 Steps)
If you're a shamrock shake fan, you don't need to wait until the onset of St. Patrick's Day to enjoy the famously green drink; make it at home, any time of the year, for a fraction of the cost. Making a basic copycat shamrock shake requires nothing more than ice cream, milk, mint extract and food coloring.
Things You'll Need
- Vanilla ice cream
- Blender
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Low-fat milk
- Mint extract
- Green food coloring
- Spoon
- Tall glasses
- Straws
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Maraschino cherries (optional)
Instructions
-
Scoop vanilla ice cream into a blender. Use about 2 cups of ice cream for every two shamrock shakes you plan to make.
-
Pour in low-fat milk. Add about 1 /12 cups of milk for every 2 cups of ice cream.
-
Add mint extract and green food coloring to the milk and ice cream in the blender. Add approximately 1/4 teaspoon of extract and about 8 drops of food coloring for every 2 cups of ice cream.
-
Fit the blender's lid securely into place. Turn on to high speed. Blend the shake ingredients until smooth, stopping and stirring the mixture occasionally with a spoon, if needed.
-
Serve the shamrock shakes with straws in tall glasses, each topped with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry, if desired.
