Passengers entering Australia can bring in duty free alcohol without paying any duty or taxes if the following conditions are met:
- You are over 18 years of age.
- The alcohol is in your personal possession and for your personal use.
- The alcohol is not for commercial purposes.
- You are not arriving from an alcohol-restricted area.
The duty free alcohol limits into Australia are as follows:
- For travellers arriving from overseas:
- 2.25 litres of beer, wine or spirits
- For travellers arriving from New Zealand:
- 3 litres of beer
- 1.125 litres of wine
- 1.125 litres of spirits
- For travellers arriving from any other country:
- 1.125 litres of alcohol
Passengers who exceed these limits will be required to pay duty and taxes on the excess alcohol.
It is also important to note that there are restrictions on the types of alcohol that can be brought into Australia. For example, you cannot bring in any alcoholic beverages that are more than 50% alcohol by volume (ABV).
