Is the alcohol different in vodka vs wine?

Yes, the alcohol in vodka and wine is different.

* Vodka is made by distilling a liquid, such as fermented molasses, to a high proof. When water is added to this distillate, vodka reaches its final strength and clarity. Vodka usually contains at least 40% alcohol by volume (ABV).

* Wine is made by fermenting the sugars in grapes, or occasionally other fruits, such as berries or apples. The end product, wine, varies greatly in color, flavor and texture. Wine will naturally range from about 5.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) for some types of beers, but usually reaches somewhere between 14% ABV and 16% ABV, with rare examples up to about 23% ABV that often contain added ethanol.
