What is rum alley I am reffering to prohibition in the

Rum Alley was a term used to refer to the area around the waterfront in Charleston, South Carolina during the Prohibition era. The Battery and other nearby parts of the city contained illegal speakeasies and clubs that sold alcohol in defiance of the law. While the 18th Amendment to the US Constitution had banned the production, transportation and sale of alcohol, much of the local population opposed the prohibition and continued to distill their own moonshine and drink in illegal establishments. Rum Alley became a hotspot for bootlegging, gambling and other illegal activities, giving the area a reputation for lawlessness and debauchery.
