How to Drink a Shot of Alcohol (4 Steps)
Adults drink shots of alcohol both for the taste of the alcohol and to become intoxicated. While there is no correct way to drink a shot of alcohol, many people do not like the taste of hard liquor. As a result, it is common to drink shots of alcohol quickly to avoid having alcohol in one's mouth for very long. Additionally, those who enjoy drinking shots of alcohol often mix juice and other beverages with the alcohol to make the shot more appealing.
Things You'll Need
- Alcohol
- Shot glass
Instructions
-
Choose a type of alcohol to drink. Consult with a bartender if you would like advice about what type of alcohol to drink as a shot. Purchase the alcohol.
-
Pour the alcohol into a shot glass. The average shot glass holds approximately 1.5 oz. of alcohol.
-
Consider mixing a small amount of juice into the shot. Alternatively, if the alcohol is a dessert liquor, add a dollop of whipped cream to the top of the shot. If the alcohol is tequila, it is traditional to lick some salt before taking the shot and then suck the juice out of a lime after taking the shot to soften the burn of the alcohol on one's taste buds.
-
Hold the shot glass in one hand. Take a deep breath and let it out. Tilt your head back and open your mouth. Quickly pour the shot into your mouth so that the alcohol falls down the back of your throat.
