How to Make Strawberry Cordials

Fruit-flavored cordials, also known as liqueurs, give mixed drinks a great deal of flavor without adding too much alcohol. Cordials may also be sipped enjoyably on their own. The key to any homemade fruit cordial is time -- some can take months to finish; thankfully, a strawberry cordial will only take a fraction of that. Cook up a strawberry cordial quickly and easily in your own kitchen to give your cocktails more sweet and fruity flavors while avoiding specialty liqueur prices.

Things You'll Need

  • Cutting board
  • Paring or sharp knife
  • Dishtowel
  • Strawberries
  • Vodka
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Saucepan
  • 2 glass jars with airtight lid
  • Fine-mesh strainer

Instructions

  1. Remove the stems from the strawberries, wash them, then pat them dry with a dishtowel.

  2. Place the strawberries onto the cutting board, then slice the strawberries into sixths.

  3. Place the strawberries into the glass jar, then cover with vodka -- 1 cup of vodka for every 6 ounces of strawberry.

  4. Seal the jar, then store for two days at room temperature and away from sunlight.

  5. Open the jar after two days, then firmly press the contents through a fine-mesh strainer into the other clean glass jar.

  6. Fill a saucepan with water. Bring to a boil, adding 3/4 cup of sugar for every cup of vodka. Simmer for five minutes.

  7. Turn off heat and allow the contents of the saucepan to cool. Combine the contents with the strawberry and vodka mixture in the second glass jar.

  8. Place the jar in the refrigerator for one full day before serving.
