How do juice boxes work?

Materials in a Juice Box

- Laminated paperboard: These are paper or cardboard with a coating of plastic material. It contains the juice and acts as the body of the package.

- Aluminum: A thin layer of aluminum is present inside the laminated paperboard. It forms a barrier between juice and paperboard, thus protecting the flavor and nutrition of the juice.

- Plastic: An additional plastic layer is used inside the aluminum layer, which further enhances the barrier between juice and paperboard. It also improves flexibility, making it easier to open or cut the box.

- Adhesive: The various layers are glued using adhesive.

Filling the Juice Box

The juice is filled and sterilized within the juice box to prevent contamination. These are the steps generally followed:

1. The empty juice box is placed into the filling machine.

2. It is first vacuumed to remove any air.

3. The specified quantity of juice is then pumped in through a small hole at the top.

4. The box is then sealed.

5. The packaging goes for sterilization to ensure the juice remains unspoiled.

Opening the juice Box

Juice boxes have a unique opening system that allows easy access to the juice without spilling it.

- The boxes have a small straw-hole with a thin aluminum cover at the top.

- Pressing this small tab inside will puncture the aluminum and allow the straw to enter.
