What does air taste like?

Air does not have a taste. Taste is one of the basic senses along with sight, hearing, smell, and touch. It is the experience of a particular flavor in the mouth, most often due to a substance interacting with the taste buds and the nerves and glands associated with them. The primary tastes that humans can experience are sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. Air, being composed primarily of nitrogen (78.08%), oxygen (20.95%), and other trace gases, does not interact with these receptors the same way food does in order to cause the sensation of taste.
