How to Infuse a Watermelon

Summertime is watermelon season and the cool refreshing fruit can be found at most picnics, barbecues, fetes or indeed any summer occasion. An adult twist on a summer watermelon is to infuse the fruit with alcohol, most notably vodka, but other infusions, such as tequila, rum, schnapps or champagne are also possible. Infusing a watermelon takes a couple of days if you want to do it properly, so plan ahead for your next adults-only function.

Things You'll Need

  • Large watermelon
  • Apple corer
  • Funnel
  • 1 bottle vodka or other liquor
  • Refrigerator

Instructions

  1. Bore a hole in the top of a large watermelon with an apple corer or a knife if you don't have an apple corer.

  2. Stick a funnel into the hole of the watermelon, pushing it in as far as it will go.

  3. Pour about a cup of vodka or other liquor into the funnel and wait for it to go inside. Add another cup, then set in the refrigerator for around four to six hours.

  4. Remove the watermelon and add another cup of vodka. Replace in the refrigerator and add more vodka in another four to six hours. Continue until all the vodka is infused. Leave overnight before serving. Slice as you would for normal watermelon.
