How many different types of coffee roast are there?
There are generally 5 different types of coffee roasts:
1. Light Roast: Also known as "Blonde" or "New England" Roast, this roast has a light brown color and is usually characterized by a subtle acidity and a mild body.
2. Medium Roast: Often called "American" or "Regular" Roast, it strikes a balance between light and dark roasts. Medium roast coffee has a medium brown color, a moderate acidity, and a more pronounced flavor.
3. Medium-Dark Roast: Sometimes referred to as "City" Roast, it has a slightly darker brown color compared to medium roast. This roast level offers a more robust flavor and a bit more body.
4. Dark Roast: Also known as "Espresso" or "French" Roast, this roast is characterized by a dark brown to almost black color. It has a low acidity, a full-bodied flavor, and a bittersweet taste.
5. Extra Dark Roast: Sometimes called "Double Dark" or "Italian" Roast, it is the darkest of all roasts. Extra dark roast coffee has a deep, intense flavor and a low acidity level.
