Who invented the word cafe and where did it come from?
The word "cafe" comes from the French word "café", which in turn comes from the Arabic word "qahwah", which came into English through Ottoman Turkish kahveh. The word was first used in English in the 16th century. Coffee was introduced to Europe by European traders who encountered it in Ethiopia and the Arabian Peninsula where coffee beans were used to make a beverage known as qahwa.
