Verifying Funds

• Call the toll-free number on the back of your card to verify available funds. Enter your 19-digit card number to receive balance information. Your food stamp balance is also available on the bottom of the receipt for your last purchase for which you used your EBT card.

Locating a Participating Retailer

• Visit a retailer that accepts EBT. Most grocery stores, many convenience stores and some farmers markets accept SNAP benefits. Look for the EBT logo usually posted on the front entrance of the store, or contact your state’s department of health and human services to locate a participating retailer.

Selecting Food Items for Purchase

• Select the food items you wish to purchase. Food stamps may be used to purchase pre-packaged coffee grounds or coffee beans. Hot coffee prepared in the store and ready to drink does not qualify for payment using food stamps.

EBT Transaction

• Advise the cashier of payment type and slide the card through the card reader. Select the option for “Food” and enter your four-digit personal identification number as requested. Payment for acceptable food items will be deducted from the total, and a balance may remain for non-food items.
