How to Make a Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan was made popular in the 1990s thanks to a certain cable TV show and paparazzi photographing celebrities with the drink in hand. It has a complex history and, depending on who you are talking to, could have been created by any one of a handful of different originators. Despite this, it is an easy drink to make and only contains a few ingredients.

Things You'll Need

  • Martini glass
  • Lime wedge
  • Sugar
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice
  • Cranberry juice
  • Vodka
  • Triple sec
  • Lime juice
  • Simple syrup
  • Strainer
  • Orange peel twist

Instructions

  1. Rub the rim of the martini glass with the lime wedge, then run the rim through sugar.

  2. Combine 1 1/2 parts cranberry juice, 4 parts vodka, 1 part each triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup with ice in a cocktail shaker.

  3. Shake the mixture for at least 30 seconds, then strain into a glass. Garnish with the orange peel.
