How to Make a Margarita at Home
To salt or not salt, that is the question. The margarita is a drink that has spawned countless variations. From on the rocks or frozen to Cadillac or strawberry, this classic tequila and lime-based cocktail can sometimes be unrecognizable when you order it at an unfamiliar bar or restaurant. To avoid the disappointment of paying for a drink that falls short of your expectations, you can whip up your own traditional margarita at home with just a few basic ingredients --- and treat yourself to a happy hour at home while saving a few dollars.
Things You'll Need
- 10 oz. highball or margarita glass
- Shaker tin with lid
- Strainer
- 1.5 oz. tequila
- 3/4 oz. triple sec or orange-flavored liqueur
- 3/4 oz. simple syrup
- 1 oz. lime juice
- Orange juice
- Lime slice
Instructions

Fill the shaker tin with 1 cup ice, then add the tequila, triple sec, simple syrup, lime juice and a splash of orange juice.

Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds or until the surface of the tin begins to ice up.

Fill the glass with ice, then strain the drink into the glass, garnishing with a lime slice.
