How to Smoke Cobblers

Smoking isn't just for meat anymore. Bold barbecuers have begun experimenting with dessert as well. A Southern favorite, fruit cobblers are an obvious choice, their sweet, fruit flavors pairing nicely against the smokiness imparted from the smoldering wood. The next time you've got a cobbler craving, heat up your smoker for a smoky spin on this classic dessert.

Things You'll Need

  • Smoker
  • Aluminum pan or glass baking dish
  • Toothpick

Instructions

  1. Preheat your smoker to a temperature ranging from 225 to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Set the temperature higher if you are smoking a cobbler with firmer fruits such as apples and to a lower temperature for softer fruits such as peaches. Prepare your cobbler in an aluminum pan or glass baking dish.

  2. Place the cobbler directly on the grates and smoke for 1 1/2 to 3 hours. Smoking time will depend on the ingredients used and the temperature of your smoker. Insert a toothpick into the cobbler to check its doneness.

  3. Remove the cobbler from the smoker once the toothpick comes out clean, free of crumbs. Serve immediately with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
