How to Make Cornflake Candy

Like most traditional Southern dishes, cornflake candy probably made its way into the hearts and stomachs of America by way of necessity; the ingredients are inexpensive, the candy doesn't take long to make and it has a nutty, caramel goodness that satisfies the sweetest cravings. You probably already have the ingredients -- peanut butter, cornflakes, sugar and light corn syrup -- in your cupboard, so take a step back in time and recreate the happiness you felt when you first tried this sticky, satisfying treat.

Things You'll Need

  • Sugar
  • Light corn syrup
  • Peanut butter
  • Corn flakes
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Combine equal parts corn syrup, peanut butter and sugar in a large saucepan. You need a cup of each to make 1 batch of candy.

  2. Cook the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the cornflakes. You need 5 cups of cornflakes for every 1 cup of sugar.

  3. Drop the mix by heaping spoonfuls onto parchment paper and allow it to cool. Alternatively, you can press the candy mixture into a dish lined with parchment paper and cut it into squares after it cools.
