How do you adjust a cake mix when adding fruit?
Adjustments needed when adding fruits:
1. Reduce liquid: The liquid content in the fruit will affect the overall moisture of the cake, so it's important to reduce the liquid called for in the original cake mix instructions by 1/4 cup for every 1 cup of fruit added.
2. Add extra flour: Fruit contains natural sugars, which can cause cakes to brown more quickly and potentially burn. Balancing the sweetness of the fruit by adjusting the amount of flour will help to prevent this issue. Add additional flour, equivalent to 2-3 tablespoons for every 1 cup of fruit added.
3. Consider baking time: The added moisture and flour may impact baking time. You may need to bake the cake for an extra 5-10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
