How to Store Cupcakes
Fresh cupcakes made from scratch won't last more than a day on your kitchen counter before they start to taste stale. This makes it doubly important to store them properly so you can enjoy them later. Cupcakes last for approximately 10 days in the refrigerator and even longer in the freezer if you package them properly.
Things You'll Need
- Airtight container
- Foil
- Freezer-ready zip-top bags
Storing Cupcakes in the Refrigerator
-
Place the cupcakes in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
-
Take the cupcakes out one hour before you plan to eat them so they can come to room temperature.
-
Eat the cupcakes within four days.
Freezing Cupcakes
-
Allow the cupcakes to cool completely if you've just baked them.
-
Wrap each cupcake in aluminum foil. Expel any remaining air, and seal the bag.
-
Place the cupcakes in a freezer-ready zip-top bag. Wait for the frosting to harden so it doesn't stick to the foil, and carefully insert each cupcake into the bag.
-
Allow the cupcakes to thaw at room temperature for three to four hours. Use the cupcakes within six weeks.
