How to Bake a Cake on a BBQ (6 Steps)
Outdoor cooking conjures images of hamburgers and hot dogs, but it also includes desserts. Most desserts for a grilling feast are made ahead of time, are cooked inside or are no-cook options such as ice cream. Consider making a cake on your barbecue grill once the meat has finished cooking. A grill thermometer to closely monitor the temperature is critical for even baking, and baking a cake on a barbecue grill is just as straightforward as using your oven inside.
Things You'll Need
- Grill thermometer
- Cake batter poured into a metal baking pan
- Wire cooling rack
Instructions
-
Light the burners of a gas grill on one side of the grill. If using a charcoal grill, move the pile of lit charcoal to one half of the grill.
-
Affix the thermometer to the grill, and heat it until reaching 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Place the cake pan on the grates over the cold side of the grill.
-
Close the lid and bake the cake for 60 to 75 minutes. You'll know it's done when the cake springs back when you press it in the center and a toothpick comes out without crumbs after inserting it into the middle.
-
Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes.
-
Remove the cake from the pan, and finish cooling on a wire rack until room temperature.
