* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup (237ml) Guinness stout
* 1/2 cup (118ml) buttermilk
* 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
* 1 large egg
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* For the Frosting:

* 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar
* 1/4 cup (59ml) unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/4 cup (59ml) Guinness stout
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* Pinch of salt
Instructions:
Cake:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together Guinness, buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Don't overmix.
5. Pour batter into pan: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
6. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting:
1. Beat butter: In a large bowl, cream together softened butter until light and fluffy.
2. Add powdered sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating on low speed until combined.
3. Add remaining ingredients: Add the cocoa powder, Guinness, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on low speed until smooth.
4. Frost the cake: Once the cake is completely cooled, frost with the Guinness frosting.
Tips:
* Use good quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.
* Let the Guinness stout come to room temperature before using.
* Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will result in a tough cake.
* For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of espresso powder to the batter.
* Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Enjoy this delicious and decadent chocolate Guinness cake! You can also get creative and add other toppings like chocolate shavings, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
