What can you use to zest a lemon if have zester?
- A fine grater. A fine grater can be used to zest a lemon in the same way as a zester. Simply hold the lemon in one hand and grate the zest off with the grater in the other hand. Be careful not to grate too deeply, as this can remove the bitter white pith beneath the zest.
- The sharp blade of a knife. To use a knife to zest a lemon, first cut off the ends of the lemon. Then, holding the lemon in one hand, use the sharp blade of a knife to slice off the zest in long, thin strips. Again, be careful not to cut too deeply.
- A vegetable peeler. A vegetable peeler can also be used to zest a lemon. Simply hold the lemon in one hand and peel off the zest with the vegetable peeler in the other hand. This method is not as effective as using a zester or grater, as it can remove more of the bitter white pith along with the zest.
