How to Julienne a Jalapeno (4 Steps)

Jalapenos, a Tex-Mex favorite, add a good deal of spice to appetizers, entrees and even a couple of cocktails. The process of julienning any vegetable means that it's cut into long thin slices, which work well in a variety of dishes raw or cooked. Julienning a jalapeno gets more flavor and heat from the pepper by exposing more of the jalapeno's surface area and also by spreading the pepper around in smaller pieces. Julienne jalapenos to create more heat with less pepper and to spice up your every bite.

Things You'll Need

  • Cutting board
  • Paring or sharp knife
  • Paper towel or dishtowel

Instructions

  1. Rinse the jalapeno with cold water and pat it dry with a paper towel or dishtowel.

  2. Place the jalapeno onto the cutting board and slice it half lengthwise with the paring knife.

  3. Scrape out the core or pith of the jalapeno halves with the paring knife.

  4. Hold a jalapeno half firmly and cut into thin strips lengthwise with the paring knife.
