What Are the Benefits of Drinking Vinegar Daily?
Vinegar is a natural product of the fermentation process in making alcohol. Different types of vinegar, especially apple cider vinegar, have been used throughout history to treat different ailments.
Types of Vinegar
-
In addition to traditional apple cider, malt, white distilled and wine vinegar, there is also a variety of specialty vinegars like rice, balsamic, fruit and herbal vinegars.
Blood Sugar
-
Several studies indicate that vinegar may lower blood sugar levels, which could help people with diabetes.
Weight Loss
-
Proponents of the apple cider vinegar diet claim that drinking a tablespoon or more of apple cider vinegar before a meal will decrease your appetite and burn fat. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is no scientific evidence that consuming apple cider vinegar will help with weight loss.
Other Benefits
-
WebMD states that a few animal and laboratory-based studies show some evidence that apple cider vinegar may lower blood pressure and cholesterol, benefit cardiovascular health and inhibit cancer cell growth, but this research is not strong enough to translate to human health.
Warnings
-
Apple cider vinegar has a high degree of acidity, which may irritate the throat. It may also interact with certain medications. Regular use of apple cider vinegar could also reduce bone density and alter insulin levels, making it potentially dangerous for women with osteoporosis or people with diabetes.
