Due to the high temperatures involved of hot grease I was wondering if it is safe use a plastic spatula when frying bacon?
No, it's not safe to use a plastic spatula when frying bacon because the high temperatures involved in frying can cause the plastic to melt and release toxic fumes, as well as deform or otherwise degrade the spatula causing pieces of plastic to enter your food. These degraded plastic bits or fumes could potentially enter your food, contaminating it and posing health risks. Additionally, the melted plastic could damage your pans or create a sticky mess on your utensils and cooking surfaces.
When frying bacon, it's important to use a spatula made of a heat-resistant material such as metal, silicone or wood. These materials can withstand the high temperatures of frying without melting or releasing harmful chemicals into your food.
