How to Roast Hazelnuts (5 Steps)
When you roast hazelnuts, you deepen and intensify their flavors. The nut meat also becomes crunchier. Although you can buy roasted hazelnuts, they're much more delicious when you roast them yourself just before using them. Whether you plan to sprinkle them over desserts, bake with them or cook with them, you probably need to roast them first. It's a simple process, although you do have to pay close attention so they don't scorch.
Things You'll Need
- Baking sheet
- Spatula
- Salt (optional)
- Oil (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Spread the hazelnuts out in a single layer across a baking sheet.
-
Roast the nuts for 5 minutes, then take them out of the oven and turn them over in the pan. Move nuts near the edge of the pan to the center, and vice versa.
-
Return the pan to the oven and check the nuts again after 3 minutes. Turn the nuts again and repeat until the nuts are golden-brown.
-
Transfer the nuts to a plate or paper towel to cool. Salt them, if you wish.
