How to Cook Country Short Ribs in a Slow Cooker With Barbeque Sauce
Slow cooking country-style short ribs makes them tender and juicy, especially when you add your favorite barbeque sauce to provide the cooking liquid as well as the tang. You can partially prepare this hearty meal the night before, by dredging and browning the meat, then storing it overnight in the refrigerator to make your morning easier. Use leftovers for pulled pork sandwiches. Country-style ribs are pork ribs, while regular short ribs are typically beef. They can be prepared the same way.
Things You'll Need
- Butter or shortening
- Garlic
- Flour
- Plastic storage bag or small paper bag
- Salt and pepper
- A whole sweet or yellow onion per person
- Wooden spoon
- Vinegar
- Seasonings
- Meat thermometer
Instructions
-
Melt butter or shortening in a hot frying pan, being careful not to burn it. Smash several cloves of garlic and fry them in the pan.
-
Dredge country ribs in a bag of flour, seasoned with salt and pepper if desired. Brown the ribs on all sides in the seasoned fat. Move them to the slow cooker.
-
Slice the onions to about ½-inch thickness. Add them to the slow cooker.
-
Pour a bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce over the country short ribs and mix together ribs, onions and sauce with a wooden spoon, ensuring all parts of the meat are covered in sauce. Add a splash of vinegar to the empty bottle and shake it to loosen the last of the sauce. Pour it into the slow cooker.
-
Cook ribs until fork-tender and falling off the bone. Allow at least 4 hours on high, and up to 9 hours on low.
