What is the three sink method?
Step 1: Prewash Sink
This sink is filled with a mixture of warm, soapy water and is used to soak your dishes once you’re done eating your meal. It is used to eliminate dirt, grease, and debris from dirty plates and utensils before they’re washed in hot water.
Step 2: Wash Sink
The main sink in the kitchen is where the actual dish washing takes place. It is filled with hot soapy water and is used to wash the pre-soaked dishes. Typically, a dishwashing liquid such as Dawn or Palmolive is added to warm, running water.
Step 3: Sanitize Sink
The third and final sink is used to sanitize dishes after they have been washed. This sink should be filled with clean water that is hot enough to sanitize the dishes and a sanitizing solution. The type of sanitizing solution you use will depend on your local health department guidelines.
