How to Use Pineapple Juice to Substitute Liquid in Baking
Substituting pineapple juice for the milk or water in your recipe can turn a basic dessert into a tropical treat. You can use it to replace the alcohol in rum cake, or give a pineapple upside-down cake an extra burst of flavor. Using pineapple juice in place of water can also enhance cookies and bread mixes, such as sweet Hawaiian bread. The type of pineapple juice you use may require you to adjust other ingredients in your recipe to achieve just the right flavor combination.
Things You'll Need
- Cake recipe ingredients, minus the milk or water
- Unsweetened pineapple juice
- Measuring spoons or cups
- Mixing bowl
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven as directed.
-
Adjust the amount of sugar in your recipe, if necessary. You shouldn't need to make any adjustments to the sugar if you're using unsweetened pineapple juice. However, if you are using sweetened pineapple juice, or you find your pineapple juice to be sweeter than expected, only add half of the sugar in the beginning. Once you've completed all the steps in your recipe and tasted the finished batter, add more sugar, little by little, as needed. Combine your dry ingredients as directed.
-
Measure pineapple juice equal to the amount of liquid called for in your recipe. Combine the wet and dry ingredients as directed in your recipe. Continue baking as directed.
