Why was french toast invented?
French toast was not invented in France, but rather in ancient Rome, where it was known as "pan perdu" or "lost bread". The dish resurfaced in the Middle Ages, when monks would dip leftover bread in a mixture of milk and eggs before frying it. As the dish spread throughout Europe, it acquired different names, including "French toast" in England and the United States.
