David Gates is still alive and well. He is 80 years old and continues to perform and write music.
After Bread broke up in 1973, Gates continued to have a successful solo career. He released several albums, including the hit singles "Clouds" and "Goodbye Girl."
In the 1980s, Gates began writing and producing songs for other artists, including Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, and Dionne Warwick. He also wrote the theme song for the television show "St. Elsewhere."
In recent years, Gates has toured with a reformed version of Bread and has released several new albums.
His most recent album, "The Essential David Gates," was released in 2019.
