What is the equivalent measurement for using applesauce instead of butter or shortening?
Applesauce can replace up to half the butter or shortening used in a recipe. For instance, if a recipe calls for one cup of butter you would only use 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of applesauce. Since applesauce is predominantly liquid this will add extra moisture so you may want to reduce other moisture-rich ingredients and add more flour
