IPS - Indian Police Service
The Indian Police Service (IPS) is a civil service under the All India Services cadre in the executive branch of the Government of India. IPS officers serve as the head of police forces in states and union territories of India.
The IPS was established in 1948, replacing the Indian Imperial Police (IIP) which was established in 1861 during British rule. The IPS is one of the three All India Services, along with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS).
IPS officers are recruited through the Civil Services Examination (CSE), conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The CSE is one of the most competitive examinations in India, with only a few hundred candidates being selected each year.
After selection, IPS officers undergo training at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana. The training period is two years, and it covers a wide range of subjects including law, criminology, investigation, and public administration.
Upon completion of training, IPS officers are posted to various states and union territories of India. They can serve in a variety of roles, including as district superintendents of police, commissioners of police, and directors general of police.
IPS officers play a vital role in maintaining law and order, and in protecting the lives and property of citizens. They are also responsible for investigating crimes and bringing criminals to justice.
The IPS is a prestigious service, and IPS officers are held in high regard by the public. They are known for their dedication, integrity, and commitment to public service.
