How many servings of pop is too much?
There is no recommended serving size for pop. The American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugar intake to 6 teaspoons (25 grams) for women and 9 teaspoons (36 grams) for men per day. A 12-ounce can of regular pop contains about 39 grams of sugar, which is more than the entire recommended daily intake for women and over half that for men. Drinking multiple servings of pop daily can significantly increase your added sugar intake and contribute to several health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay. Therefore, it is advised to limit the consumption of pop and prioritize healthier beverages such as water, herbal tea, and moderate amounts of unsweetened plant-based milks or fruit juice.
