What do Red bellied eat?

Omnivorous: Red-bellied woodpeckers are omnivorous; their diet consists of a variety of insects and fruits.

Typical diet: Adult red-bellied woodpeckers feast on insects that may include beetles, spiders, ants, wasps, and even cockroaches and grasshoppers. They’ll also sometimes venture to the ground in search of spiders and ants, and during fall and winter they often eat beech nuts, pine seeds, acorns, dogwood berries and other fruits.

Nesting habits: These woodpeckers typically nest in dead or dying trees, or in telephone poles. They excavate a hole 12 to 50 feet high, and the female will lay 2-4 eggs inside the nest.
