How do you make marinara sauce taste like spaghetti sauce?
Marinara and spaghetti sauces are extremely similar, however there are small variations in the type of tomatoes and the addition of different spices. Here is a recipe to turn store-bought marinara sauce into a tasty spaghetti sauce:
Ingredients:
- 1 jar (24 ounces) of marinara sauce
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1/4 cup of chopped onion
- 1/4 cup of chopped green bell pepper
- 1/4 cup of chopped red bell pepper
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium heat.
2. Add the onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the garlic, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes and cook for 1 minute more, or until fragrant.
4. Stir in the marinara sauce and bring to a simmer.
5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
6. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
Tips:
- If you want a smoother sauce, you can puree it in a blender or food processor.
- If desired, you can also add some cooked ground beef, sausage, or meatballs to the sauce.
- Serve the spaghetti sauce over your favorite pasta, such as spaghetti, penne, or rigatoni.
