How come I can put apples and oranges in a salad have it still be salad, but if lettuce fruit then not anymore?
Salads are dishes that typically consist of a mixture of raw or cooked vegetables, meats, and other ingredients, usually dressed in a sauce. Lettuce is a common leafy vegetable that is often used as a base for salads because of its crisp texture and mild flavor. However, when lettuce becomes fruit it is no longer a vegetable but rather a sweet, fleshy part of a plant that contains seeds and is typically eaten fresh. Therefore, a salad with lettuce that has become fruit is no longer a salad by the typical definition.
